Де можна знайти MP3 Ані Лорак???

I know this is blog is called RusskiPop, but occaisionally I will also write about music from other East European countries. Today I am going to talk to you about a Ukrainian songtress of Eurovision fame. But no! it isn't our friend Ruslana. I am talking about Ani Lorak (Ukrainian: Ані Лорак, Russian: Ани Лорак), who should have represented her country at this year's Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv. However, because she supported the pro-Russian cadindate in the recent Orange Revolution, in the final round of the extensive selections, a load of pro-Ukrainian "Orange songs" were added as wild cards, and Greenjolly's Разом нас багато Razom nas bahato "Together we are many" swept to victory.

Ani's song was the rock-pop Another Little Shot, which would have stood a much better chance of winning than Greenjolly's rubbish shouting.

Miss Lorak first appeared as a young girl in 1995 and since then has had a number of succesfull albums. She sings in Russian, Ukrainian, and more recently in English. When she first came out she sang mostly in Russian, but most of her recent singles have been in Ukrainian or English. Unfortunately I am having trouble finding MP3s online, so I can only provide links to her videos.

A few Яаndom songs...

Here are a few Russian songs that I particularly like, or find interesting.

First up we have another song from Dima Bilan (Дима Билан), pictured, who featured in my second post back in August. The song is called Как хотел я Kak khotyel ya (How I wanted), and is singer's latest offering.

Download Kak khotyel ya

Next is a song by t.A.T.u. which just hit the net today. It is a track from their new Russian album which will be released on 20th October. The song is called Вся моя любовь Vsya moya lyubov' (All of my love), and will also be included as a bonus track of the UK edition of the new album. Remember the new t.A.t.u album Danegerous and Moving is out on Monday 10th October!

Thirdly, is a song by two ginger brother called Братья Грим Brat'ya Grim (The Brothers Grim). I heard this song on the radio many times when I was in Russia.

Finally is a song which I am not sure if I like or not. I downloaded it because it was on the radio ALL THE TIME in Russia in June, and it brings back happy memories. It is by a group called A-Studio and is called Улетаю Ulyetayu (I fly away), and goes Na na na na na na.....

It's Nicola from Girls Aloud!

Ain't Nobody Hurt No One... SO PLEASE DON'T HURT ANY OOOONE! Does that ring a bell? If you saw this year's Eurovision Song Congtest it will, as it was the chorus of Russia's entry, sung by Natal'ya Podol'skaya (Наталья Подольская). Natal'ya is actually from Belorus', a country widely known as the last dictatorship in Europe, but like most people in the country only speaks Russian. Like the previous year's Russian entry, Yulia Savicheva (Юля Савичева) she appeared on one of the many series of Фабрика Звёзд Fabrika Zvyozd (Star Factory) and progressed quite far.

Natal'ya has an album called Поздно Pozdno (Late), which according to my friend who has it, "is shit". However, I have heard three tracks from the album and it seems alright. He did however enjoy Yulia Savicheva's Album, which will be the subject of my next entry.....

I'm radiation

TEMA (pronounced tyemah) are in a transition at the moment. Shortly after t.A.T.u. left their manager, creator and mastermind Ivan Shapovalov in early 2004, he set about creating a new group. The idea was project TEMA. Two young girls, Sasha Anokhina (16) and Nastya Kotova (15) were selected, and the idea of the group was that they'd make music in order to meet their idols.

Their first song Кто, если не я? Kto, yesli nye ya? was initially passed off as a new t.A.T.u. song to gain publicity. Most t.A.T.u. fans were fooled, since the song was also accomanied by a fake report that t.A.T.u. has changed their name to TEMA following the split with their managment.

Despite releasing songs to radio and shooting (albeit very low budget) videos, the girls were never signed to any record label. In recent months it has been anounced two news girls will replace Sasha and Nastya, and yesterday it was revealed that the two new TEMA girls will start recording their debut album tomorrow. It is rumoured that they will record the same songs previously recorded by Sasha and Nastya.

The final song recorded by TEMA was the brilliant Радиация Radiatsiya (Radiation).

It's All About Them

Yes, more t.A.T.u.! Over a month ago, the full new English t.A.T.u. album Dangerous and Moving leaked on to the net, to the joy and dismay of fans. The general feeling is that it is better than their debut 200 km/h in the Wrong Lane, however I am still undecided. Indeed it is a brilliant album, but somehow I was expecting more. The title track, for example, is amazing, but it isn't as epic or memorable as it could be; for me it falls flat. This could partly be down to the fact that their voices sound bad on the chorus (this also applies to the Russian version of the song Люди-инвалиды Lyudi-invalidy (People are Invalids).

My favourite track from the album is the single Russian language track Обезьянка-ноль Obyez'yanka-nol' (Monkey Zero). This song was mentioned in my first entry, but it is only since hearing the studio version have I fallen in love with it. It is a very powerful song, and one where Yulia's voice actually sounds good.

Other stand-out tracks are Friend or Foe, Love Me Not, and, of course, the single All About Us.

dangerous and Moving is released on Monday 10th October, on the same day as the Russian version Люди-инвалиды Lyudi-invalidy. Both albums consist of mostly the same songs, but each also have one or two songs unique to them. For example, All About Us will not appear in Russian, and the Russian song Вся моя любовь Vsya moya lyubov' (All Of My Love) will not appear in English.

The video for the title track of the new Russian album has started rotation on Russian TV, and this same video will be the second English single Dangerous and Moving. The video is about "Moral invalids" engaging in an orgy of sex, drugs and gluttony. Watch out for the video's ending.

Millsky Vanillsky

Glyuk'Oza [in Russian Глюк'Oza (from the Russian word глюкоза/glyukoza, glucose)] started purely as an animated character. Later the girl behind the cartoon was revealed to be an attractive blonde 20 year old (then 18), Natasha Ivanova. This is the official line; however it is thought that in reality the record company wanted to cash in on concerts and boost promo, both of which would have required a front lady. Natasha could just be a random blonde they found. So quite possibly Glyuk'Oza is Russia's answer to Milli Vanilli.

Glyuk'Oza is one of the most popular, and most interesting artists on the Russian pop scene at the moment. It's distinguishing features are it's Tarantino style guitars, and "Natasha's" unique, if somewhat grating voice.

Glyuk'Oza's first album Nostra was a huge hit in Russia, and saw her win the MTV Europe Music Awards' Best Russian Act in 2003. The follow up, Москва Moskva (Moscow), arrived in summer 2005, with the odd Russo-German ditty Швайне Shvaynye (Pigs) as it's first single. Simultaneously it is utter brilliance and complete shite, with it's German chorus "Eins, zwei, drei shiki-shiki schweine oh-oh!". As for the rest of the album, I can't really comment, since I bought it on pirate cassette in an underpass in Tatarstan and haven't got round to listening to it.
